Interactive Scale Model of EV Green Charger

The Interactive scale model of EV Green Charger supports the achievement of the UAE to make a smart, integrated, and sustainable city with a clean, healthy, and green environmental elements. 

Model scale: 1:1

Model size: 100 x 30 x 180 cm.

 The Green EV Charger initiative was launched by DEWA in support of  HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to promote green transportation in the city.

This Interactive scale model of the Green Charger was aimed to serve the purpose of raising awareness of how easily the Smart EV Chargers are accessible to the public. The awareness was part of the efforts to help the public understand and learn the infrastructure and encourage them to use environmentally friendly cars.

The EV Charger is equipped with three types of sockets for different cars:

  • DC ChadeMO
  • AC Type 2 Socket
  • Combo CCS Socket

The main challenge for the team was to reproduce the sockets in the model. The sockets were quite expensive to be placed in the model and the 3D drawings of it were not available too.

Our team overcame the challenge by the use of advanced 3D printers after producing accurate 3D drawings from the actual socket. The sockets were then 3D printed with high precision and further polished and painted to attain a perfect finish. The three types of sockets as seen in the image below were perfectly crafted by our experienced model makers to recreate the real ones.

The next challenge faced by the team was how to effectively present the idea of the green charging to the audience. 

After brainstorming different ideas, it was then concluded to keep the cars in a rotatable tabletop. Three different cars were embedded in the tabletop and the one to be charged is kept facing the Green Charger.

All the exact processes were cloned with interactive screens: the number plate detection system, the charger type, car details, and battery status.

After the charging is done, the car owner will be notified to plug back the socket to the charging system.

The interactive physical model is a great presentation tool for creating awareness of its operational ease and the usage convenience of the green charging facilities to promote electric vehicles in the city.
